I have been a practicing marriage and family therapist since 2000. The knowledge I have gained from my practice, along with my life experiences have helped shape me into the therapist I am today. A great deal of my personal growth came from experiencing those things that no one is prepared for; divorce, anxiety and depression all touched me during my life. Recovery from those were hard, but necessary to help me better understand some of the struggles you might be facing.
No one enters into a committed relationship thinking they will ever separate, divorce, or otherwise part ways. Unfortunately, statistically it happens more than half the time. Even as a marriage and family therapist, I had to deal with divorce after 11 years of marriage. It was a very difficult time in my life. I have since remarried and, while experiencing blended family challenges, have learned so much from these personal experiences that it connects with my professional experience and allows me to better help my clients deal with their issues.
A lot of my work is based on therapeutic methods taught by Terry Real and Pia Mellody, with whom I studied. I am also trained in EMDR, ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), and Somatic Experiencing. I like to incorporate all of these methods when working with my clients, tailoring a program to address each individuals or couples needs.
